well, we’re back in action — hi guys and happy new year, one and all! i hope you had a festive, but relaxing holiday. it’s good to be back! it’s not been the most restorative holiday i’ve ever had, but it has been very productive! we’ve started the remodel of my bathroom and walk-in closet and my house looks a giant boy in the bubble, because it’s wrapped in plastic in its entirety to keep the construction dust at bay. i can’t wait to share with you what i’m up to, but in the meantime, my pup lucy and i have moved into my downstairs guest studio, so i’ve been busy making it our home away from home.
i love the wood beamed ceilings and on warm days the ceiling fan from barnlight electric keeps it pretty comfy and cool down here. i’ve had the jenny lind daybed for a while now, so i sleep up top, and lucy gets the lower trundle bunk. lucky girl seems pretty cozy down there. i organized the tiny closet and since there’s no door, i hung a pretty temple scarf from the block shop (if you’ve ever been to ostrich farm i got the idea from there!), and i hung a couple of my favorite prints — laure joliet’s bougainvillea print and rikkianne van kirk’s hold. the mantis wall sconce makes for a great bedside reading lamp. i added loads of pillows and a black and white Moroccan Berber Beni Ourain rug from the pink rug co. to cozy up the space. the studio is just about 100 square feet, so i had to go vertical with my storage, hanging my coat, scarves and accessories, and keeping my kitchen accouterment stored on white shelves above my wee kitchenette. i’ve got a makeshift ‘dining room’ which consists of the counter and a wicker barstool! i just have a small fridge, microwave and espresso maker, but we are making due quite well, and it’s kind of a fun challenge to start the new year living a little bit more minimally. here’s to less is more in 2017!
