one of the easiest ways to rejuvenate your spirits and give a room a decor refresh is with textiles. it’s so easy to simply swap out your existing pillows, bedding and rugs with new pieces — even seasonally! in chilly months, add warm, richly colored throws and bedding and in springtime, go pale pastels! recently, i was invited by two of my favorite homewares designers to lighten up my bedroom for spring — with pretty new bedding from rebecca atwood’s latest collections, and with one of my very favorite rug designers, australian-based armadillo & co. who recently opened a brand new beautiful showroom in los angeles. first up, my new area rug — all armadillo’s products are 100% handmade, using Fair Trade practices with natural and sustainable fibers. i have their dandelion rug in my dining room and love the round shape, so i went with a similar natural weave in the bedroom — the petunia with two rings of frill add detail and a decorative element to this otherwise simple design. the weave and shape really add texture and interest to what was a pretty ordinary floor area.
next up — dreamy new bedding from rebecca atwood, who also opens her very first brick and mortar shop in Manhattan, on Mott Street in Nolita. brooklyn-based Rebecca’s flagship store will carry her full line of fabrics, wallpapers, pillows and bedding, as well as one-of-a-kind pieces and items that are exclusive to the store. her beautiful new bedding collection is made in Portugal and designed specifically by rebecca in pretty patterns that help you to feel relaxed and ready to sleep. i chose a mix and match look to include her shell duvet and pillowcases in blush — originally a drawing in Rebecca’s sketchbook, inspired by the shapes of tiny pink shells collected on the Cape Cod beaches of where she grew up. i paired the pillowcases with rebecca’s sweet Good Morning, Good Night Embroidered Pillowcases which are adorable and her pretty Striped Coverlet in Tangerine for contrast. for a finishing touch and addition of another complementary pattern, i added her Gridded Ikat Lumbar Pillow in Peach/pink with hand-dyed yarns that give it a painterly feel. so, as you can see without a lot of effort, i was able to change up the overall look of the bedroom and am really ready for warmer months!
