i’ve always thought it so cool how we can use color as a reflector of what’s going on in our culture. each year, color creators at pantone release their color of the year, and as you may know, in 2016 they chose not just one, but two colors: the year of rose quartz and blue serenity. it could be amongst chaos we as a culture sought out comfort in the soothing pastel hues we surround ourselves with. i was curious as to who, and how they come up with these definite choices. turns out it’s just a handful of the most prestigious color experts and a whole lot of trend forecasting.

for 2017? they are predicting a color they’ve deemed “thrive” a yellowish-green tone. is it possible we are seeking escapism through this exotic color? more doses of bright happiness? in the words of pantone: it promises longevity, endurance, and health.
