i don’t think i’ve ever put two, identical matching pillows together on a sofa or a bed, or together on any piece of furniture for that matter. i just think it’s so much more interesting to mix your patterns well, playing off the colors, and mismatched glory of it all. throw in another pattern with an area rug, art print or wallpaper, and it’s even better. no cookie-cutter, expectations for me. i love these rooms, because while they are daring and anything but expected, they’re fun and have a sense of whimsy and humor to them, but done really, really well. so that’s my lesson for the day — break out of the old rut and mismatch a little. be a little playful with your patterns — throw pillows are a great way to start getting adventurous because they’re inexpensive, and you can simply swap out the cushion covers if it’s just not working. no harm done!
